Biography
Prof. Dr. Vu Duong (in Vietnamese: Dương Nguyên Vũ) is currently Director of John
von Neumann Institute (JVN) – The Center of Excellence of Vietnam National
University Ho Chi Minh City in Applied Mathematics, Systems Science, Knowledge
Science, and Information Science. Prior to returning to Vietnam, Vu had been Head
of Innovative Research and Chairman of the Scientific Committee of the multi-
governmental European Organization for the Satefy of Air Navigation
(EUROCONTROL) and had managed its innovation arm from 1999 to 2006. He
remained involved in European aviation research & innovation until 2012 as a Senior
Scientific Advisor and a Member of European Commission’s Single European Sky
Scientific Committee (SESAR). Involved in research and education in Vietnam since
1997, after more than a decade of constant travel between Europe and Vietnam, in
2010 Vu decided to fully return to Vietnam to establish and launch JVN with the
passion to implement the triangle of knowledge that merges research, education
and innovation to perform the ecosystem to help sustaining the growth of the
country. Vu holds an M.Eng (1986) and a PhD degree (1990) in Artificial Intelligence
from Ecole Nationale des Ponts et Chaussees of France (Ponts-ParisTech).
